ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION


"Qualifying Examinations and Eligibility"


The Eligibility criteria for both Under-graduate and Post-Graduate Engineering Admission is as per Anna University Rules and Regulations for the colleges affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.

A pass in the HSC (Academic) or its equivalent with a minimum average percentage in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry put together as given below.

OR

A pass in any one of the HSC (Vocational Subject) as given below with any one of the Engineering related subjects namely Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry with a minimum average percentage put together as given below.

Brief Description of the Curriculum Pattern

U.G. Courses: All B.E and B.Tech. programmes are of 4 -year duration; each year comprising two semesters. Students undergo six theory and four practical courses. Theory and Practical courses have three internal assessment tests and a final examination. All the examinations are of closed book type. Practical tests also include Viva-Voce examinations.

The Masters’ degrees (PG) M.E and M.Tech are two- year programmes divided into four semesters. The first two semesters have six theory courses and one or two practical courses. The third semester has three theory courses including electives and phase I of project work. The fourth semester is for phase II of the project where the student conducts experiments/research and prepares a thesis. The theory courses have three internal assessment tests and a final examination. The practical subjects have internal and final examinations. All the examinations are of closed book type. Practical tests also include Viva-Voce Examinations.


Description of Credit and Grading System of Anna University Chennai

Credit system is followed for UG and masters’ degree courses A theory course of 45 hours duration - 3 credits. A theory course of 45 hours with additional 15 hours of laboratory classes or tutorial classes – 4 credits

A practical course of 45 hours of laboratory classes – 2 credits, and 30 hours of laboratory classes – 1 credit.

UG project work in the final semester of 180 hours – 6 credits; A student has to obtain about 200 credits to complete the UG Programme.


Description of Credit and Grading System of Anna University Chennai

Phase-I in III semester – 180 hours – 6 credits

Phase-II in IV semester 360 hours – 12 credits

A five-year integrated course has about 219 credits to complete the course.


The following Letter grades and corresponding Grade Points are awarded

S-10, A-9,B-8,C-7,D-6,E-5,U-O,I-0,W-0 • S is the highest and E is the lowest • U for fail • W for withdrawal from course

I for prevention cases (shortage of attendance, which is attendance less than 75%)

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and Grade Point Average (GPA) are calculated

(exempting U,I and W grades) by Sum of [Credits X Grade Points]/ Sum of Credits.

English is the medium of instruction for all Undergraduate, Masters degree and PhD programmes.
